• Training

  The Clay Pigeon Shooting Club trains at The Scottish Clay Shooting Centre near Leuchars, and one of the top clay target shooting grounds in the country.

  Informal training sessions are held every Wednesday and Saturday and shooters of all abilities encouraged to attend. Coaching is provided by the staff at The Scottish Clay Shooting Centre.

  In addition, the club provides opportunities and assistance for members seeking to acquire shotgun licences.

  Transport to and from the shoots is organised by the club, as are cartridges, ear and eye protection, and guns.

  You may shoot with a Club license holder for a fantastic price of £15 or choose lessons to improve your shot for only £25. You would be hard-pressed to find better value shooting in the UK! Please email the club for further information.

• Competition

  The club competes at a diverse range of fixtures across the UK throughout the academic year.

  Key competitions in the calendar include challenges at Oxford, Durham, and Edinburgh. Our very own challenge is a particular highlight, with over 200 competitors attending from 14 UK universities, making it the largest student clay pigeon shooting competition in the UK.

  The club typically sends one Men’s team and one Ladies’ team to each competition, with the exception of the popular Bisley Cup. Hosted by the University of Edinburgh, St Andrews usually enters five teams: usually two Men’s, two Ladies, and a Mixed team.

  Competitions are open to all abilities and all members are encouraged to come along and participate.

• Club activities

  The Club is well known for hosting some of the best socials in St Andrews. Each social has its own unique theme, whether it be an “Ou est le Poulet” pub crawl or “Wolf of Wall Skeet”.

  Every couple of months we host Black Tie Dinners which typically sell out within minutes.

  We also organise non-alcohol-related activities, such as brunches. Our events are a great opportunity to get to know committee and members, so if you’re curious about what our Club is about, come and see for yourself!

  The Club prides itself on having one of the most active social scenes in the University. We host a social every Wednesday and black-tie dinners every couple of months. It’s a great bunch of people and new members are always particularly welcome!

• The St Andrews Challenge and Welly Ball

  The Challenge

  
  The Challenge is hosted in November at The Scottish Clay Shooting Centre each year, 200 competitors from 14 UK universities attend.

  A highlight of our Club calendar, it is the largest university Clay Pigeon Shooting competition in the UK. The day consists of 50 sporting and a 100-bird flush, with teams comprising of 4 guns.

  The Welly Ball

  
  The renowned Welly Ball is held immediately after the competition, which sees over 2000 students from St Andrews and guest universities gather for Scotland’s largest black-tie dinner and ball, to celebrate the Challenge.

  Last year, £30,000 was raised for the chosen charity, the Charlie Waller Trust. For more information please visit @wellyball

• How to get involved

  Whether you are new to the sport or an experienced shot, already attend the University or if you are thinking about attending, please get in touch to register your interest and find out more about our club.

  The University hosts a Sports Fayre at the beginning of each academic year during Orientation Week, giving prospective players the opportunity to talk to club members and sign up to ‘Give It A Go’ sessions.
